An Alcohol Dependent Male Goes to Rehab, Gets Alcohol Detox and Treatment for His Depression and His Alcoholism, and Begins to Live Life to the Fullest

Barry used to boast to his drinking pals how he could maintain a 40 hour per week job and get intoxicated nearly every night. Unfortunately, after involving himself in this “party” lifestyle for approximately six-and-a-half years, he started to have several alcohol related issues.

Barry Begins to Have Numerous Alcohol Related Difficulties

As an illustration, he had a very hard time getting up for work because he felt so tired when he awoke. Moreover, almost every morning Barry had a terrible hangover. Undoubtedly, the combination of his hangovers and his lack of get-up-and-go did not make it easy for him to get up and feel like he wanted to go to work. To add fuel to the fire, approximately a week ago he received his second drunk driving citation in the past nine weeks.

To compound things further, at his job his last two work evaluations were less than satisfactory. And finally, his six-year relationship with his girlfriend had deteriorated due to his depression, angry outbursts, financial difficulties, and his lack of patience.

Though Barry was only twenty-four years old, he frankly began to look like he was in his mid forties. Sadly, this is what abusive and hazardous drinking can do to a person. And in all honesty he comprehended that he was suffering from the negative consequences of alcohol dependency or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to fritter away his life to careless and hazardous drinking. So at first he tried to drink in moderation. Unfortunately, he soon grasped the fact that he lost all control after consuming his first drink. Stated more forcefully, after his first drink he invariably proceeded to get drunk. Due to the fact that this was an incident that was repeated virtually every time he drank, this greatly bothered him. In truth, he started to wonder if he was manifesting some of the signs of alcoholism and alcohol abuse.

Barry Decides Make an Appointment to See His Family Doctor

After talking about his excessive alcohol ingestion and his abusive and hazardous drinking with his girlfriend, he finally decided to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare practitioner. When Barry saw his physician, he frankly declared that he has been drinking in an abusive manner, that he may be displaying alcoholic signs, and that he wants to stop drinking. He then confirmed that drinking responsibly and in moderation doesn’t work well for him and, as a result, he wants to learn how he can live an alcohol-free life.

Barry also told his doctor about his depression and how this mental health issue was adversely affecting his relationship with his girlfriend. His doctor referred Barry to Doctor Zakov, a drug and alcohol addiction psychiatrist, who influenced Barry to enter into a drug and alcohol treatment facility as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol rehab. The good news is that Barry would also be able to get treatment for his depression at this treatment clinic.

Quitting Drinking Was the Best Decision Barry Had Ever Made

After three months of rigorous rehabilitation, Barry left the residential rehab center and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient counseling. Encouraged to change his life in a healthier way, Barry went to a health store and bought some vitamins and a cookbook. He then joined a fitness center and began working out three or four times per week. Within seven months Barry was a new person. He was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, he now looked younger than he was, he wasn’t depressed anymore, and most significant of all, he remained sober for numerous months. He also didn’t resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more compassionate person in his relationship with his girlfriend. Stated briefly, stopping drinking was the best decision Barry had ever made.
